ClockClock: When Time Becomes Art

Time has always fascinated humankind. It is constant, yet fleeting; invisible, yet omnipresent. For Stockholm-based studio Humans since 1982, time is not just something to measure - it is something to design, to choreograph, and to transform into an immersive experience.

Founded in 2009 by Per Emanuelsson and Bastian Bischoff, Humans since 1982 has become a pioneering studio and global luxury brand for collectible art and design. With their philosophy of “form follows fascination”, they blur the lines between technology, design, and art. Their iconic works such as ClockClock 24 and A Million Times, have been exhibited at leading institutions including the Saatchi Gallery, Smithsonian Design Museum, and Somerset House, and collected by both museums and private collectors worldwide.

The Birth of an Icon

The idea for the first ClockClock was born in 2008. Instead of treating clock hands as mere indicators of time, the duo liberated them - turning them into “dancers” moving in carefully choreographed patterns. Sometimes they form abstract shapes, and sometimes they align to display the precise time. This interplay of order and chaos quickly captivated audiences and transformed into a completely new category of collectible art.

ClockClock 24 – A Kinetic Masterpiece

The ClockClock 24 consists of 24 small clock faces arranged in a grid, each hand moving with mechanical precision. With three programmable modes - Active, Medium, and Quiet, it can shift from playful, kinetic patterns to serene stillness, or simply display the time in its unique digital typography.

Every ClockClock 24 is hand-assembled at the Humans since 1982 studio in Stockholm, built with a mineral composite housing, bespoke electronic components, and proprietary software. The piece has become part of world-renowned collections, including MoMA Store, Vitra Design Museum, and the Nationalmuseum in Sweden.

Collectors often remark on its calming, almost meditative sound—a reminder that time is not only seen, but also felt.
